Little Bits of Light can Illuminate the Darkness

The last week or so saw an uptick for me as the group I volunteer with finished our 29th home for a refugee family of 6. It takes me back to Spring 2022, when it was suggested that I “check the group out…” When I did, I learned that ‘they’ accepted every aspect of support: gatherers, donors, cleaners, deliverers, and finishers

That’s how it was explained to me less than 2 years ago.

Today, the group has grown so large we try to wear nametags because we can’t keep up with the newcomers of volunteers! Yet, despite some unfamiliar faces at each resettlement, there is NEVER a face that is not a FRIEND.

The original group roles have expanded not only in numbers but in vastness. Just a few that have been added are ~ financial supporters, lunch providers, carpenters, organizers, tech support, and promoters… the list goes on and on, as the never-ending needs continue.

We seldom meet the families; that is something I personally hope can evolve… but right now, it is still quite tangible~ imagining the inner serenity families surely must feel when they realize that they are not only safe but that they are welcome. Despite the hardships and loss they have experienced, their resiliency has gotten them here.

What an honor to welcome them ‘home…’
