Dare I seek what we have in common…?
For I know of our difference… beliefs, values, practices…
Every corner of the world wants to shout how much we are different … incompatible, better off on either side of the great divide.
How long can we sing this anthem?
For while it brings momentary relief and even a bit of righteous satisfaction,
I am growing ever weary of the chasm that keeps stretching wider.
So wide that I soon fear we will not be able to get across to the other side.
And why would we? If all we see is what is wrong.
Dare I ask, “What do we have in common?”
Do I want to know,
or am I choosing
to stay safe on the side of what is right for me?
Can we stay on topic?
Avoiding the all-too-familiar realities that shout loudest to be heard
over anything and everything else…
Especially the fact that we share humanity, and love, and connection.
Everything is a trigger… encouraging me to run far away…
But.
A single sunbeam. Ready to speak its truth.

Shining through a web that some spider spent the night designing.
Totally INVISIBLE if I step to the left or to the right.

Just like in life.
Common ground is so fragile
And division is so loud.
It will take an inner SUPERPOWER of courage to ASK,
and STAY with the question,
“What do we have in common ?”
We are all created by our God and he loves each and every one of us as we are
Amen!
